Q?Is there an adhesive to help OcuMend stick to the skin?

There is nothing added to OcuMend to help it stick to the skin. Hydrogels naturally adhere to the skin because of their high water content and the molecules that make up their structure.

Q?Is there any potential for infection or allergic reactions from the OcuMend?
A.

OcuMend should not cause any allergic reactions due to its biocompatible nature. OcuMend will not cause infections but should not be applied to any surface that is known to have an active infection.

Q?Can OcuMend be used after laser resurfacing?
A.

Cearna has no information regarding any positive or negative effects of OcuMend use after laser resurfacing.

Q?Can it be used after filler injections?
A.

OcuMend is recommended for use after filler injections to prevent bruising.

Q?Can it be used for face-lifts?
A.

OcuMend can be used on facelifts on areas that are expected to have bruising or demonstrate bruising post-surgery.

Each box and sleeve of OcuMend comes with an expiration date that should be referenced prior to use.

Q?Does OcuMend have an adhesive so it adheres to the skin?

No. OcuMend’s hydrogel technology naturally adheres to skin without additional adhesives added to the product.

Q?Can patients still apply ice treatment to the area?
A.

Yes. Ensure that the ice does not cause the OcuMend pads to get wet, which will decrease their ability to adhere to the skin.

Q?Does OcuMend need to be stored in a refrigerator?
A.

OcuMend does not need to be stored in the refrigerator but can be if additional cooling on the skin is desired. Do not freeze OcuMend as it will inactivate the product.

Q?After the first 48 hours of continual application, why is the application reduced to 3 hours per day for days 3-6?
A.

After the initial 48 hours of recovery, the body’s natural healing process has increased after the initial continual application of OcuMend.

Q?How long is it kept on the skin before replacing it?
A.

OcuMend should be replaced within 6 hours of the first application. Gel pads are no longer effective after 6 hours of application to the skin

Q?What are the Instructions for Use for OcuMend after filler injections?
A.

Wear one pad on each side of the face.  Apply pads immediately after injections for 6 hours. 2nd set of pads should be applied and worn overnight.

Q?What are the Instructions for Use for OcuMend after surgery?
A.

Apply OcuMend to the affected area, avoiding any contact with incisions, for the first 48 hours post-surgery. OcuMend should be replaced at least every 6 hours. After the first 48 hours, apply at least 3 hours a day for the next 3-6 days.

Q?Can I evaluate the product by conducting a side-by-side comparison?

Based on observational studies, OcuMend produces a regional effect that results in limited visible difference between the treated and untreated eyes. In these observations, the patients who used OcuMend, even on only one eye, showed less overall bruising than was seen from historical patient experiences.

OcuMend is regulated by the FDA as an over the counter product.

Q?How does OcuMend reduce the bruising, swelling, and pain?
A.

OcuMend delivers Arnica and Ledum to the site where bruising, swelling, and pain is anticipated or is present. OcuMend’s hydrogel is able to deliver 50x the strength of other topical Arnica products on the market. Arnica has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. The active components of Arnica have been shown to inhibit platelet function, inhibit activation of NF-kappa B, and enhance phagocytosis. The other active component, Ledum, has a long history of use for bruising in the peri-orbital area, but the mechanism of action has not been studied extensively.
